Weddings – the planning stage leading up to the actual day, is a process of never-ending stress. That is why couples look forward to their honeymoon. It is when husband and wife or same-sex couples can let their hair down and enjoy while taking their first trip together.

Topmost on the menu for the trip should be a relaxation for the couple, while not sacrificing their bucket-list must-sees. The trip should also suit the newlywed’s lifestyle – are they sporty, adventurous, wild-shoppers, or do they want to simply lounge by the pool?

Below is a list I have gathered as suggestions for the couples planning to go on their post covid-19 honeymoon – or even second honeymoon.

Exotic Place #1 Croatia

Owing to the Game of Thrones mania, Croatia was suddenly thrown into the limelight. It has gained mileage amongst avid fans (and non-fans) with its beautiful towns and landscapes.

Whether it’s the mystical lakes or majestic waterfalls that you like, or Roman ruins or medieval castles are your thing, Croatia will certainly not disappoint. Add to the list are hiking trails, pristine beaches with clear waters that are certified Blue-Flagged (guaranteeing water quality, safety, and services), and wild nightlife partying – you’ve GOT a winning formula for an exotic honeymoon destination!

Exotic Place #2 Vietnam

Many people’s impression of Vietnam is still the image of Miss Saigon – a war-ravaged country, American troops, and people wearing traditional Ao Dai. Today, Vietnam is a bustling country bursting with an energy of forward-propelling motion.

Let’s make a list of what to do and see while in Vietnam:

  • Visit their UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Trang An Landscape Complex, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Ho Citadel, the Halong Bay, and the Hoi An Ancient Town. My Son Sanctuary, Complex of Hue Monuments, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
  • Try their local cuisines such as Banh Mi (French baguette with different fillings), Pho or noodles with assorted meat, Vietnamese rolls, etc.

Whatever is the husband and wife’s preference, Vietnam will indeed have something to offer.

Exotic Place #3 Costa Rica

This Central American country may be small in size, but it shelters 5% of the world’s biodiversity. Couples who are environmentalists will nod their heads when they see that Costa Rica is prominent in conserving and protecting natural territories.

Nature lovers will find an abundance of rainforest hiking trails, majestic waterfalls, and rivers for whitewater rafting. The action continues below the sea with whale sharks, whitetip reefs sharks, manta rays, and many more.

Exotic Place #4 Iceland

Known as the “Land of Fire and Ice,” Iceland is a country of geological opposites. It is truly a destination for the adventurous. Imagine a honeymoon trip where you can:

  • Scale mountains and volcanoes
  • Tour Iceland atop the Icelandic horses
  • Visit National Parks like Vatnajökull, Snæfellsjökull, and Þingvellir (a UNESCO WHS)
  • Go caving, whale-watching, ice climbing, hiking, running

Suppose the above activities are not enticing enough, how about timing your visit between September and April to watch the world’s most magical lights show – the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights)? Instagrammable!!

Exotic Place #5 Zanzibar

Located off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa, Zanzibar is set the make a splash as a beach destination for honeymooners. Enjoy fine white sand beaches, hike in the Jozani Nature Trails where exotic plants and trees abound. If you’re lucky, catch a glimpse of the endemic Red Colobus Monkeys, a specie that can only survive in Zanzibar.

There are many sites to see: Stone Town Inner City, a Unesco Heritage Site,  the House of Wonders, Old Slave Market, and the Seaweed Center. Zanzibar Island was a major important stop in the Spice Trade many centuries ago, and up to this day, the spice farms are still actively growing anise, pepper, garlic, ginger, and other local fruits.
